NFL Applying for a Job Guide

For Job Hunters

Online job hunting adds a whole new level of complication and frustration to an already stressful occupation, the job of finding a job.  No one is immune.  Whether you are a neophyte learning to navigate the Internet or beginning to send an email or an experienced user who still can’t get a resume to format correctly in an email or online job application, you should find help here.

This Guide to Applying for a Job Online has been created to help you get around computer generated stone walls. It provides quick access to a number of online tools for job hunters that can be found throughout the Newton Free Library website.  Within this guide you will find direct links to the library’s Career Center, Newton’s Quick Job Search Blog, and the Applying for a Job Online class. Make sure you explore the eight other tabs listed at the top of this page. (You are currently on the "Home" tab.) Within these tabs (also known as pages) you will find smaller packets of information divided into blocks.

On this current page take a look at the handouts and supplementary materials on the right.  Are you having trouble embedding your resume into your email or copying and pasting your employment information into an online job application? Take a look at "Handout 8 -- Plain Text." It explains the problem and then shows you step by step and screenshot by screenshot how to fix it.

For Teachers

For anyone who needs ideas for their own classes or would like to use one that is ready made, take a look at the right column directly under the label "Instructors." First check out the syllabus at the top. It explains the interrelationship of the PowerPoints, the handouts, and the supplementary materials that follow directly below. It not only explains how everything can be used together, but also how sections can be split up and used separately to meet specific, individual needs.
