Genealogy Databases

Newton Free Library's Genealogy Databases

A quick definition of a database is a site that you have to pay for.  It is run by a business and usually pays employees to add and update information.  The City of Newton pays for the sites listed below so you use them at no addtional cost to yourself.  Heritage Quest you can access from home if you have a Newton address with a Newton card beginning with 21323...  and you go in through the library's website at www.newtonfreelibrary.net.  All the rest must be accessed within the library.

Genealogy & Local History websites

When you first start using a new website, always check it out for side frames to the left and right, as well as  tabs or a line of boxes at the top with additional topics.  It doesn't hurt to check the bottom for small print and site maps.  Clicking on "site map" should bring you to a subject outline of the website. It helps searching a site that is so overloaded with bells and whistles that it is difficult to figure out.  Not all sites have them.
