Library Cards

A library card gives you free access to over 6 million books, CDS, DVDS, magazines, and online resources to borrow or stream!

Apply for a library card in person at the Newton Free Library or at any other Minuteman library with a photo ID and proof of address. Proof of address can be your Driver’s License or a piece of mail.

You may also start the registration process online to sign up for a six month Minuteman library card, and then visit Newton Free Library to complete your application with your ID and proof of address.

Children and Teen Applicants:

Your first library card is a special milestone! Children 5 years or older, or in kindergarten, are eligible for their own library card.

Children under the age of 12 may apply for a library card if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a photo ID and proof of address.

Teens, age 12–17, who are unable to meet the ID and address requirements, may apply for a library card with a parent or legal guardian using their photo ID and proof of address.

The child or teen must be present with the parent or legal guardian to apply for a library card.

Please remember to bring your library card with you each time you visit.

  • Store a digital version of your library card on your phone by downloading the Minuteman Library App.
  • There is no charge for your initial library card, but there is a 50¢ fee for replacement cards.
  • If your card is lost or becomes compromised, tell us immediately. You are responsible for all materials charged to your card until the date you report it lost.
